Statement of Environment Illinois Program Director, Max Muller:
"Today, Congress took an historic step, toward a new clean energy
economy and a healthy future by passing the American Clean Energy and
Security Act. The vote was 219 to 212.
"We applaud Representatives Bean, Davis, Gutierrez, Halvorson, Hare, Jackson, Kirk, Lipinski, Schakowsky, Quigley, and
Rush for voting for this crucial legislation.
"We are extremely disappointed with the rest of the Illinois's
delegation for opposing this critical bill.
"Our nation needs a fundamental shift in energy policy. The dire
scientific predictions regarding global warming demand that we do more
than this bill will do, but the first step is always the hardest and
we applaud Congress for taking it today. We learn to walk before
we can run; this historic act by Congress gets us up on our feet and
heading toward a clean energy economy.
"Tomorrow, we look forward to building even more support for even
stronger solutions."
