ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMS

In 2007, Environment Illinois fought hard to pass legislation instituting energy efficiency programs across Illinois.

This summer marks the long-awaiting arrival of these programs to Illinois, giving you an opportunity to save money and help save the environment.

WHAT ARE THE ILLINOIS ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMS?

Recognizing that every $1 spent on energy efficiency saves up to $3 off customer energy bills, Illinois law now requires ComEd, Ameren, and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to institute energy efficiency programs to curb our growing energy demands.  These programs offer a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and public sector solutions to increase energy efficiency throughout our state.

Utility programs include discounts on compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), incentives for turning in old refrigerators and air conditioners, and other savings opportunities for Illinois families and businesses.  In addition, the DCEO offers public sector incentive programs, low income efficiency programs, technical assistance programs, and training and education programs.

HOW CAN I TAKE ADVANTAGE?

For information on how to participate, click on a link below:

If you're a ComEd customer (Northern Illinois & Chicagoland area), click here

If you're an Ameren customer (Central/Southern Illinois), click here

If you're a public sector energy customer in ComEd or Ameren's service territory OR a low-income builder/developer, click here for DCEO's programs

CFL HEADQUARTERS

Did you know that if every Illinois household replaced five incandescent light bulbs with five compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), we would save enough energy to power 120,000 homes?  And not only do CFLs use up to 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs, they last up to 10 times longer.

To learn more about CFL bulbs -- including proper CFL disposal, CFL recycling locations, a CFL savings calculator, and more -- check out our Environment Illinois CFL Headquarters.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY TIPS

With summer upon us and energy bills on the rise, Environment Illinois is here to provide you with tips on how you can save on energy costs and help save the environment this summer.

Check out our Energy Efficiency Tips page for more details.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY EVENTS

This summer, Environment Illinois will be holding events statewide to promote the Illinois electric utility energy efficiency programs and to help promote greater energy efficiency throughout our state.

Take a look at our Energy Efficiency Events page to see if we're headed to your area.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY POLICIES

While there are plenty of great steps you can take at home or at work to increase energy efficiency, Environment Illinois will continue to work hard at ensuring that laws and policies help increase energy efficiency statewide.

Head over to our Energy Efficiency Policies page to see what issues we're working on to increase energy efficiency across Illinois.
