Ameren is the primary electric utility for Central and Southern Illinois. Under legislation passed in 2007, Ameren has $10 million earmarked for energy efficiency programs in 2008 and is scheduled to spend over $60 million on energy efficiency programs through 2010.
Ameren's program offerings are divided into residential solutions (for its residential customers) and business solutions (for its commercial & industrial customers).
RESIDENTIAL SOLUTIONS
Ameren's residential energy efficiency programs are not yet on-line and available to its residential customers. Ameren will be making individual programs available to the public once they are ready; the most recent schedule we received for Ameren's residential energy efficiency programs is as follows:
- Residential Lighting (CFLs) -- sometime in July
- Appliance Recycling -- September 1 (tentative)
Launch dates for other programs are unknown at this time.
Ameren has set up a website for its energy efficiency programs at ActOnEnergy.net. That site features a page specific to its residential energy efficiency programs due to be updated as programs are released to the general public.
Environment Illinois will update this page as more information about Ameren's residential programs becomes available.
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
Ameren's Commercial and Industrial (C & I) energy efficiency programs are now on-line and available to its business customers.
Ameren's C & I programs provide financial assistance to support implementation of high-efficiency opportunities—ones involving modernizing facilities or improving industrial processes. Examples include premium efficiency motors, lighting measures, variable frequency drives, and upgraded compressed air and refrigeration systems.
Ameren's C & I programs also include financial incentives for energy efficient electric products already readily available in the marketplace.
Eligibility
Ameren's C&I programs are available only for commercial or industrial electric customers of AmerenCILCO, AmerenCIPS, or AmerenIP (collectively referred to as Ameren Illinois Utilities or AIU).
Programs
Ameren provides Prescriptive or Standard Incentives for rebates on energy-efficient electrical products that are readily available in the marketplace.
Custom Incentives are available for customers based on calculated electrical energy savings for specific customer projects. Custom incentives need to be pre-approved by Ameren, customized based on estimated electrical energy savings, and subject to a cap.
For New Construction, Ameren seeks to capture energy efficiency opportunities available during the design and construction of new buildings. Also included are major renovations and tenant build-outs in the non-residential C&I market―construction projects that are being built to meet LEED―Leadership in Energy Efficient Design-certified (“green building”) requirements. This program is scheduled to be available in the Fall of 2008.
Ameren will also offer an extensive Retro-Commissioning program to improve the performance of energy-using electrical equipment in existing buildings by focusing on optimizing electrical or mechanical equipment and related controls. Ameren’s program will encourage large building owners and managers to analyze the energy performance of their buildings. Ameren will assist in identifying major opportunities for improving performance through existing system improvements and replacement of under-performing equipment. In certain cases, financial support would be provided for taking recommended actions. Ameren’s retro-commissioning program is scheduled to be available in the Fall of 2008.
