Dear Member of Congress:
We
can repower America with clean energy, protect our environment, and
transform our economy in the process -- putting millions of Americans
to work building wind turbines, installing solar panels, weatherizing
homes, and building the 100-miles-per-gallon cars of the future.
President Obama has called for Congress to act. We urge you to support:
•
Requiring utilities to generate at least 25 percent of the nation’s
energy from renewable sources, such as wind and solar power, by 2025.
• Cutting energy use in new buildings by half and requiring utilities to use 15 percent less energy by 2020.
• Reducing global warming pollution by 35 percent by 2020 and by at least 80 percent by 2050.
• Holding Big Oil, Dirty Coal and other polluters accountable and making them pay for their global warming pollution.
Energy More energy efficiency for Illinois Last year, Environment Illinois helped to pass a law that requires our
electric utilities to help their customers save energy. If done right,
this program will save about one billion kilowatt-hours of electricity
per year, approximately the amount that 100,000 people would use in a
year. Now, we're working to make sure these landmark energy efficiency standards are implemented properly. Read more.
